Today… Let's pretend I’m your favourite Threader.
Nope!
That's cliche …
Today, let's assume I'm an ‘Iyaloja'.
Let's assume we all are businesswomen and men.
And let's refer to time as our capital…
Straight to the point.
I have a lot to say but I'd keep it short, in shaa Allah.
I'm upset with myself and I'd tell you why. I started writing this particular newsletter 5 days ago.
I was writing about the 600 tweets limitation. I wrote stuff on how it reminded me of a Hadith that I like about spending my time with Jannah in mind.
This was the first paragraph I wrote:
“This is about the Hadith that made me happy about the tweet limitation and why I would not pay for verification, in shaa Allah.”
* * * * * * *
However, my brothers and sisters, if you have seen me on threads, you would know that I've done the unthinkable. I spent the whole day there yesterday and most of my morning today was spent there as well.
I don't hate the app but, future me (i.e me on Yawm ul Qiyamah), may hate it with every fibre of my soul. Yeah… I know… That sounds too serious. Eh … Business people are usually serious.

Allah gave us time as capital. The deeds we gain from spending our time is the profit. Whether it's Instagram, Threads, Facebook, or Twitter, there is a dire need to track how we spend our time because profit is possible and loss is also a great possibility.
In case you're wondering where I'm going with this, stay with me.
A valid question to ask right now would be…
What would a typical 'Loss' situation look like?
A life where we spend a lot of our time on entertainment (Movies, Play, Social Media, Games, etc).
Days spent ignoring the easy opportunities available to us to earn rewards. (Dhikr, Sharing Sunnah reminders online, following and consuming content from Islamic pages, etc)
The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “A person’s feet will not move on, on the Day of Resurrection, until he is questioned about his life and how he spent it, about his knowledge and what he did with it, about his wealth, from where he acquired it and on what he spent it, and about his body and for what he wore it out.”1
You don't need much else to realise that…
The time spent reading tweets (or threads) could be spent reading Qur'an, beneficial books or doing other forms of useful work…and… Allah is always watching. We owe Allah an account of how we spent our time… and there'd be no escaping that.
Pause …
Think about that for a minute…
I've tried to navigate this social media thing for a while now and this is my advice.
If you follow an account, make sure that you gain something there; either some worldly benefit or something in the akhirah. Otherwise, use your 'mute' and 'block' buttons without mercy.
Don't post just anything. Make sure that your social media personality is someone that the prophet (peace be upon him) would be proud of. Someone that you, yourself, would always be proud of.
Resist the urge to be like others. It's easy to post thirst traps or jump on cheap trends…but we are different and our Sunnah- our Deen is superior!
Qur'an and Sunnah are trends everyone should be jumping on but they'd never know if we don't tell them or show them. Make a choice to show the world what makes Muslims special.
Let's do something meaningful.
Let's do something different.
If this sparked something within you, write back to me.
Full Hadith reference: At-Tirmidhi (2417) narrated – and classed it as saheeh – that Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “A person’s feet will not move on, on the Day of Resurrection, until he is questioned about his life and how he spent it, about his knowledge and what he did with it, about his wealth, from where he acquired it and on what he spent it, and about his body and for what he wore it out.”
